Just A Question May 29, 2006

I have an acquaintance (I use that word because I only see him once a month on average). When I do see him, it is generally with his "slut-hot" girlfriend (his words, not mine). On occasion I run into this girl while running errands. Without going into detail, I can definitively say that she wants to engage in preextramarital sex (the worst kind). The way I see things, I have three options:

a) give her toe-curling orgasms

b) inform my acquaintance

c) do nothing

I have already made my decision but using the blogosphere as a barometer seems like fun. Have at it.

Neither is figure skating! Unfortunately, curling is a sport. Go figure. If you aren't intelligent enough to understand why, don't bother arguing with me on this one.

It's just my luck that the first year I get invited to E3, a concert prevents my attendance! However, I can't complain as it sounds like my pass is getting sold for $300. Fortunately, the invitation is an open one and it's already on my calendar for next year.

On days like today

I close my eyes

and let the wind kiss my face

and if I don't try too hard

I am taken back

to soccer matches in the sun

to innocence

and imagination

that make me think I'm better off at home on a Saturday night, with all my doors locked up tight.

Mission: Impossible III May 5, 2006

This movie was quite remarkable. If what we require of this genre is a explosive yet clever American counterpart to James Bond, I suggest that J.J. Abrams has succeeded on all counts. The action commences en medias res (which is a Latin literary term for in the middle of things). Movies that contain such subtleties are generally worth watching and this one is no exception. However, subtleties alone rarely make make a movie. Perhaps the best element of the picture is the oft venerated acting of Philip Seymour Hoffman. If you look at his filmography, it is easy to understand how he lends credence to any production in which he is involved. In MI3, he transmutes the one-dimensional role of villain into a complex and enigmatic entity. In the end, facets of guile and allusion make for a compelling cinematic experience.

Considering a former blink-182 side project produced one of the most brilliant recordings of our generation, I am going to hype this band ahead of the 23 May 2006 release date. The AVA stylized web design exhibits discretion and puts that of another of my favorite bands to shame. I've had the privilege of screening some of the unreleased tracks and many are phenomenal. This album is a definite contender for the "soundtrack of summer" mix which will be released in the near future, exclusively on this site.

A Night At The Oscars May 1, 2006

I suppose the aspect I enjoyed most about St. Mary’s prom was the attention to detail; which also happened to be the overall unifying theme of the entire evening. The night commenced innocently enough on the east side of Medford where the setting sun supplied ample opportunity for photographs of the four of us (i.e. Eli, Rachel, Rudy and myself). I quickly learned that Rudy, Rachel’s 22 year old boyfriend had previously attended ten proms, an exploit I should hope never to attain. Gogi’s was peerless once again as it produced some of the finest cuisine in the valley. In case you were wondering, I had the buffalo filet with freshly hunted morel mushrooms and an exquisite grilled romaine salad. Then we ditched the BMW for a limousine (provided by the prom committee) and it carried us all of four blocks to the U.S. Hotel Ballroom. We were greeted by camera flashes as almost a dozen teachers disguised themselves as members of the paparazzi. The ballroom was decorated with chiffon and a black and white movie played silently against the backdrop. The dance floor was vacant and it quickly became apparent that this was a consequence of an ill-equipped DJ. I requested some Benny Benassi and was greeted with a blank stare so I settled for some vintage Busta Rhymes. Despite frequent visits to the DJ booth, I danced for nearly 2.5 hours. We then enjoyed some chocolate dipped strawberries, collected our “celebrity gift bags” and prepared for the proverbial “après-party.” In the end, the most rewarding part of all of it was having the ability to provide an old friend the senior prom she desired. And to top it all off with a big scoop of karma: After hearing about our endeavors the next day at Youth Symphony rehearsal, another friend requested my presence at her senior prom in Ashland. At present, it appears as if the business of escorting eligible debutantes is quite lucrative.
